1. What is Gaelic Football?
Gaelic Football is a distinct field game which is similar
to the evolution of Australian Rules. Gaelic Football can be
described as a mixture of Soccer and Rugby, although it precedes both.
It is believed that Australian Rules evolved
from Gaelic Football through the many thousands who were either deported
or emigrated to Australia from the middle
of the nineteenth century.
Gaelic Football is also played in the United States by clubs such as
the HGFC. Gaelic Football is played on a field
approximately 152 yd. long and 81 yd. wide.
2. What are the rules and field like?
A Gaelic Football pitch is similar
to a Rugby pitch but much larger. The average pitch size is 130 to 145 meters long
and 80 to 90 meters wide. A game last about 60 minitues, devided into
2 halfs of about 30 minutes each.
There's about 15 players on each team. The game is played with a round
leather football, similar to a soccer
ball, but heavier.
